The latest news updates from families throughout our great community by Melissa Salvatore!

Christie and Terry Arnold, of the upper section of Lakeview Drive, have two scholarly daughters! Hannah Arnold, (JWHS 2017) made the Autumn term Dean’s List at Longwood University School of Nursing (Farmville, Va.); and Brittany Morgan Arnold recently graduated Christopher Newport University (Newport News), Summa Cum Laude (the top GPA honorary), with a degree in political science and international relations. (The school is known for its political science program.)

Brittany graduated in 2014 from JWHS, thus, she actually graduated a semester early from college, due to earning so many credits in high school taking AP courses aligned with Lord Fairfax Community College.

Jan and Anchi Wagner, who lived on Waterside Dr. for many years (Anchi ran summer camps for children and taught tennis to our lake kids; Jan directs the orchestra at Shenandoah University), report that their daughter Bettina is doing very well in the Big Apple. A student at Pratt University in NYC, an artistically-focused school, Bettina made the President’s List for the semester. Brother Nico, a senior at John Handley High School, is exploring his college options, looking at several prestigious colleges in Virginia and elsewhere.

The Poppo’s oldest daughter, Sarah, made the President’s List at Fairmont State University for the Fall term. She is a 2017 graduate of JWHS. Her sister, Kate, has also been featured in the newspaper for impressive volleyball play on Varsity at JWHS.

Cheryl and Chris Holm, of Waterside Drive, are proud to announce their son Christopher recently graduation from Hampton Police Academy and is serving as a police officer there. Sister Kelsey is currently working as a CNA at Winchester Medical Center’s oncology department.

Mandy and Kyle Van Fossen, who lived on Greenbriar Circle from the mid-2000s to 2013, have a high school senior, Brianna, who was recently featured in The Winchester Star for winning a $5,000 scholarship available to competitive team gymnasts. Brianna is a level 8 (of 10 skill levels) gymnast at her parents’ gym, East Coast Gymnastics Club in Winchester, and was one of 24 young women competing for the prestigious “Janet Rothenberg Memorial Scholarship” at Pocono Manor, Pa. She was selected to receive the scholarship based on academic excellence (she has a 3.8 GPA at Millbrook High School), community involvement and athletic achievement. Brianna does volunteer work at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Amherst Street; organized a fundraiser for leukemia and serves as a coach for the level 4 gymnasts at ECGC. She trains many hours a week, and has placed in the top of the state of Virginia in numerous gymnastics events. She will put the scholarship toward her higher education at West Virginia University, where she will pursue a degree in the medical field next Fall and will compete on the club gymnastics team for the school.

Other Lake Holiday Kids currently playing sports that we know of:

Nicholas Cardinale, son of Chris and Brenda Cardinale of Overlook Drive; and Aiden Shaughnessy, son of Sheryl Shaughnessy, both play varsity hoops for the JWHS basketball team and their stats have been featured in box scores in The Winchester Star.

Ella Myers, Freshman daughter of Mike and Debby Myers; and Madison Milburn, Freshman daughter of Tom and Kandie Milburn, play JV basketball for the Lady Colonels in addition to playing travel soccer on a Winchester United team.
