The Sousa family: The Sousa sisters are soaring! Vanessa Sousa, JWHS class of 2012 (and Varsity Girls Soccer goalie extraordinaire might we add), recently undertook her White Coat Ceremony for Physical Therapy!

And then there’s Carolin (also a beast in soccer). She was in the JWHS Class of 2014. She’s moved out west and planted herself out in Fort Collins where she attends Colorado State University, majoring in landscape design and already working for a landscaping firm there.

Baby sister Patricia, a 2017 Grad (another great soccer player) is attending Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, enjoying a most beautiful time on campus.

Hernandez Family: All hands up for America Hernandez, a JWHS Sophomore, who not only excels at dance, but has been named to the A Honor Roll! And hand-claps for Aneleesa, JWHS Senior, who has been acknowledged for her artistic accomplishments; one of her art pieces was selected for display at the Frederick County Board of Education, which is a great honor.

Salvatore Family: These sisters here! Adrianne Salvatore, JW 2013, is on the Honor Roll at Lord Fairfax Community College, majoring in accounting, and working a full-time job in the Business Department at Haverty’s in Dulles.

Colleen Salvatore JW 2016, second year at the University of Virginia, has been invited to join several honorary societies due to her grades. She also recently had a philosophical article she wrote about immigration selected to be featured on the website of the organization she joined, Charlottesville Alliance for Refugees. Colleen joined the student chapter and will interview new arrivals to the US.

Eleanor “Ellie’’ Salvatore saw her hard work pay off from completing the “Max Insanity Workout’’ series as well as her regimen of basketball workouts to earn a spot on the JWHS Varsity Girls Basketball Team as a Sophomore.

Andrew Konyar: Truly, he must be one proud grandpapa! His grandchildren, JWHS students Kenzie and Kevin Konyar, are the #1 runners on the JW Cross-Country Team and more! If you haven’t seen their accomplishments in The Winchester Star, both have consistently placed in the upper echelon of every meet this season.

Kenzie, a Sophomore, was named as The Winchester Star’s runner of the year as a Freshman, has qualified for states where she placed 10th last year, and topped it by placing 8th this year in the entire state!

Kevin, a Senior, also has qualified for the state meet for the second year in a row. His event had not run at press time. Kevin’s times this year have allowed him to pursue running at the collegiate level.

Weaver/Morelli Family: Matthew Morelli, a JWHS Junior, continues his academic excellence as a perennial high-honors student. Matthew was also inducted into the National Honors Society this fall. Currently, Matthew is the sole teenager on any committee, a non-voting member of the TechComm Committee, where he is learning from the Committee and providing important technical feedback and assistance as well as he pursues his field of computer science.

Matthew helped to construct the foundation elements of what the TechComm Committee hopes will become the Association’s new website in the very near future and continues to provide assistance in that regard.

Tyler Ostinato, a JWHS Senior, also continues his academic excellence as a perennial high-honors student. He is also a member of the National Honors Society. An avid sports enthusiast, Tyler is a member of the JWHS track teams, all of them; Indoor Track, Cross-Country, and Track & Field.

Tyler is pursuing the field of engineering and is currently in the college application process where he is narrowing down his hopeful destination for higher education.
