Lake Holiday has begun the process of affiliation with Firewise USA, a program sponsored by a consortium of national agencies designed to minimize the danger of wildfire to communities in forested areas. An app is available to assist residents prepare their homes to minimize the threat: http://readydl.com/landing/wildfire/index.html.
The app is loaded with information and easy to navigate via smartphone or tablet. In addition to preventive measures, there are tips for recovery after wildfire and resources about wildfires in our region.
Limited grant funding is available based on a community’s “buy-in” with voluntary labor contributions, i.e., efforts made to make homes and lots more resistant to fire. A reporting form is attached herein, and can be submitted to chairsc@lakeholidaycc.org.
Firewise is a community effort with a community-wide component. The latter involves clearing fire lanes, disposing of deadfall, insuring the availability of dry hydrants to combat forest fires (Lake Holiday currently has three), and the readiness of individual fire hydrants.
More information will be available during the community Town Hall meeting on July 28 at the Security and Safety Committee table. Going forward, information will be available at the annual meeting and other future events. The best thing all of us can do for now is to start by becoming informed — all of us have a role to play.
