Country Club Park

Country Club Park

The concept of the Community Hub, recently named Country Club Park, came to be as the community was seeking a way to take advantage of the property that formerly was a golf course at Lake Holiday long ago.  Since outdoor recreation contributes to the physical and mental well-being of the membership, it makes perfect sense to create a centralize recreational site and facilities that will meet the wants and needs of all ages and demographics to enjoy the natural environment.  The site is along Country Club Drive where the former golf pro shop once stood as the gateway to the first hole and the conclusion at the 18th.

A survey performed by the Golf Course Advocacy Committee in 2015 showed that the main request for use of the golf course property, absent an actual golf course, was for walking and biking trails.   An area off of Country Club Drive was identified as perhaps the ideal location for a possible Community Hub, a multi-purpose area for trails and many other activities.

The preliminary ideas for implementation, some of which have already been established, look something like this:

  1. Hiking/Biking Trails defined and mowed.
  2. Parking lot boundaries defined and graded
  3. Horseshoe pits, bocce ball, shuffleboard, etc. and picnic tables have been added.
  4. Multi-use Sports Field is relocated from the site along Colonial Drive
  5. Disc Golf Course – has been added
  6. Dog Park – has been added
  7. Barbecue Areas and possibly a Pavilion
  8. Playground to include swing set, slide, batting cage, lacrosse net, for example.
  9. Single golf hole, putting green, or mini-golf installation

The idea behind Country Club Park is to create a park-like area within Lake Holiday for the membership to utilize and enjoy.  The Country Club Drive area is centrally located, a short walk to the beach, and has enough space for parking and multi-purposes, such as those identified above.

As of March of 2019, the defined areas for walking/hiking/biking along the golf course trails have been implemented.  Two horseshoe pits, bocce ball court, and picnic tables have been implemented.  A disc golf course design has been fully implemented, and more is to come, so stay tuned!  Below was a rough-out of some preliminary proposals.
